Also, are there regulations in my territory about engine type? Should I buy the unit in a certain condition? What kind of capacity does the machine need in order to work properly in my country? Which accessories should I purchase along with it? And more…
Not having this information could deter you from going ahead with the purchase, and you could be missing out on a great deal.
The good news? It isn’t complicated. This guide to help you buy concrete pumps for sale to New Zealand will give you everything you need.
Importing concrete pumps into New Zealand
We understand how it can seem difficult to achieve all these different tasks. Our company has been restoring concrete pumps for more than 10 years and exporting to New Zealand & Australia. So we have answers to all of the above questions and more.
Who to buy from?
If you are buying from a company in the USA, it’s important to first check that the company is legitimate. You can do this by checking the “division of corporations” of the state where the company is located.
Example: say you want to do business with our company. We’re located in the state of FL., so Google search “Florida divisions of corporations“. This will take you to the website, where you then search for the business name “Jed Alliance Group, Inc“. There, you will see how long the company has been in business, who the owners are, their current address and other things that might be relevant to you as a buyer.
It’s also important to check their reviews on the internet. Using our company as an example again, just Google “Jed Alliance Group Reviews” and you’ll see a list of what people are saying. In our case, it’s all good!
Does the company actually own the pumps?
It’s important to check that the company you’re buying from actually owns the units, or if they belong to another party. It’s very common for companies to act as the “broker” in a sale. These companies list a machine owned by somebody else on their website and look for a customer to purchase it. Once the buyer pays them for the unit, they then proceed to pay the seller and actual owner.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this approach, and there are many good reputable companies out there doing it. But, nonetheless, it’s important to know where the machine is coming from, where is it physically located, and understand this kind of transaction and the associated risks.
A real customer testimonial:
“11 years ago, I bought a concrete pump from a broker in Texas. He sent me the photos, the information, serial numbers, etc, and I sent him the money for the unit. But to this day I have yet to see the machine.
I started a legal battle with the broker and found out that he had actually paid for the unit as well. The problem was not him – the problem was the crooked owner of the machine he was buying it from. Since the broker did not have control of the unit, he did not have it in his yard and had never actually even seen it.
The machine’s owner took his money without delivering the goods and days later declared bankruptcy. This left me in a very difficult situation that took years to recover from.”
There are risks in everything you do in your everyday life, and there is even a risk in doing nothing at all. But it’s important to measure them and reduce risks wherever possible.
We at JED Alliance Group only sell our own equipment, and have the biggest inventory of Used concrete pumps for sale. There is no middle man, and all the equipment is located right here in our yard. We have our own refurbishing facilities and ensure a high standard of quality, with our JED Quality Assurance process. We also belong to the Better Business Bureau with a AAA+ rating for more than 10 years.
How to pay for the unit?
Once you know who the actual seller is, and that your investment is going to be safe, the best and SAFEST way to send money is by wire transfer. Since “wire fraud” is a felony, there are strict international regulations in place and many ways to prosecute for this crime.
See this list of precautions to take before wiring money to a company for your purchase:
Make sure to also get an actual invoice or bill of sale before making the wire. DO NOT wire money without getting the proper documentation via email or regular mail, even if you think the seller is a straight arrow.
Once the seller send you an email, it serves as proof of the transaction, the intentions, and the parties involved. Ask them to also email you when they have received the money, confirming its receipt and the amount of money deposited.

How to transport the unit to the embarkation and destination ports
The best and safest way to transport a concrete pump to any inland port in the United States is using a flat bed truck, or even low boy truck (depending on the type of pump).
If you are buying a concrete trailer pump, you definitively don’t want a company towing it to the port. Here is why:
“We decided to transport my trailer pump from Georgia to the port of Miami, and the freight company who picked it up sold me a flat bed rate. To save money I guess, they decided to use a pick up truck to tow my machine all the way down to Miami.
Unfortunately for them, one of the tires blew out and the driver lost control of both the truck and the pump. This almost caused him to crash and flipped my pump over the road, destroying it in the process. Unfortunately for me, their insurance policy did not cover towing.” (real customer testimonial)
For most countries the best way to transport cargo is through containers. Assuming you have a freight forwarding agency, the unit would be prepared for loading prior to the embarkation port. Make sure the trucking company gets a dock receipt, and check that the freight forwarder has the facilities to load and secure the machine into the container. From their location, the freight forwarder will re-route the container to the port of embarkation.
Once the vessel has left the port, the shipping line would produce a BL (bill of loading) showing confirmation that the cargo has departed. Generally, containers can take anywhere between 15-45 days to reach destination, depending on the location. South America is normally 1 week; countries like New Zealand or Australia are 45 days.
Which engine should my concrete pump have ?
If you are buying a used concrete pump ranging from the years 1996 to 2008, then TIER1 to TIER3 emission standards will apply. These engines are very export-friendly for the fuel quality used by most countries, and are easy to adapt to any fuel type.
Today, the federal government requires that petroleum refineries produce a diesel that contains much less sulfur than in the past. Therefore new engines were designed and TIER4 standards were adopted for the period of 2008-2015. Only countries with regulations for TIER4 standards have “Ultra Low Sulfur” diesel, making earlier concrete pumps nonviable for export to these countries.
In what condition should I buy my concrete pump ?
When choosing the type of concrete pump to acquire, there are 3 categories you can pick from: New, Refurbished concrete pumps or Used.
In some countries, it’s not easy to find skilled mechanics and suitable parts, and in some cases it’s almost impossible. If you are trying to import a concrete pump, you should check the brand’s local presence first, as the last thing you want is to have your machine down for too long.
When buying a brand new pump, the chance of breakdowns are reduced dramatically, but the cost of acquisition is far higher.
When buying a refurbished pump, the majority of the mechanical issues have been addressed. JED Alliance Group has a Quality Assurance Process, where we fully strip the concrete pump’s parts and assemblies, inspecting every element of the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
We then proceed to purchase new original spare parts and refurbish the machine up to factory specifications. Next, we apply epoxy primer and enamel paint to reduce corrosion, before finally applying brand new safety stickers and logos.
When the restoration is complete, we pressure check the whole unit and pump water under the highest pressure possible through the system. We want to know that if the machine breaks, it happens in our shop and not at your job site.
You would completely lose all these safety tests and assurances if buying a used unit that you have never seen before. You never know if a previous owner could have caused irreparable damage.
What accessories should I buy with this machine?
Keep in mind that pipes, hoses, clamps and other accessories might be different from country to country. Some countries use the metric style, some use the flange HD, and a few out there use the male/female style.
If you are buying a concrete pump in the United States, we recommend buying the hose/pipe system from the same country you buy your concrete pump. When we sell a concrete pump for export, we always offer our customers a very affordably-priced option to purchase the whole pipe system from us too. As well as remote controls, auto greasers, and hopper vibrators, with installation and loading included.
