Cimet Construction, a company located in Mexico, has been nominated to win “Crews That Rock” honors from the famous ‘The World of Concrete’ event that takes place every year in Las Vegas. This is a great concrete pump customer success.
JED Alliance Group had the pleasure of helping Mr. Sholem Cimet. He needed a couple of restored used concrete pumps with very specific characteristics to make the job work. Our engineering staff worked diligently together with him to meet his needs, and ensure the success of the job.
An Engineering Success with Refurbished Concrete Pumps
Here is Mr. Cimet’s story of how Cimet Construction with JED Alliance’s help achieved engineering success:
We were hired to build an office tower in the heart of Mexico City, which is a very difficult environment.
The first reason for this difficulty was the location. It was in a difficult part of Mexico City, where you find a lot of heavy traffic and narrow streets. There was little room for around 1,000 concrete mixers to stand waiting to dump their load for the foundations.
The second problem was the soil type. The ground under this part of the city used to be a lake, meaning it was wet underground with a lot water. This made it unstable for any type of heavy machinery, so we had to look at other options.
The Construction Challenge
All construction processes had to be done quickly to ensure the structure of the foundation. This consisted of huge pillars 54 meters deep, ranging from 1.5 meters to 2.2 meters in diameter, and milan walls 0.6 meters wide. We had to make pours of concrete without stopping because of risk of dirt falling into them as soon as the excavation process for each piece was done.
The Design Solution
After a long analysis, we decided that producing our own concrete would be the best option to ensure a smooth operation. This would help us avoid all the problems and delays in traffic. Delays to the concrete delivery would cause cold joints in the pillars, endangering the structure, and thus the entire building. So we mixed the concrete for the pour from a vacant lot right next to our job site.
We bought a couple of used Schwing concrete pumps restored by JED Alliance, a Reimer mobile volumetric mixer, two cement silos, and a payloader. It was very important that the machines would not fail, so we used highly-credible companies to carry out these purchases.
We met with concrete laboratories, cement and additives specialists, to get the best advice. We made every decision about the mix design, from sand and gravel selection, to the finished concrete according to the specifications.
The Results: Success!
We finished the job with a production of more than 7,000 cubic meters of concrete, which was amazing. At times, we made up to 250 cubic meters of constant production, and still the concrete passed all laboratory tests. We worked faster than anyone expected and improved the quality of the concrete to ensure the reliability of the foundations.
The process provided a safe structure for the building and a big money saving. Our project: office tower of 26 levels, located at the intersection of Insurgentes Avenues and Chapultepec in Mexico City, achieved LEED GOLD pre-certification.
